do i need it really?
i have my car in the shop getting major work done to the engine and body and one problem they are fixing is an over heating problem. i did everything to try to fix it: new rad, thermostat, new flex a lite fan,rad cap, but i could not fix it so i left it to the shop. im assumeing its the head gaskets but theres no signs. car does not smoke, no problem in performance or starting or anything, dont loose antifreez, and nothing in the oil, so my shop thinks its not the gasket problem and is something small. he suggests i get the lower fan shroud, but i never had that lower fan shroud EVER and i never had a heating problem untill now. plus i heard that u cant u it with those flex-a-lite fan. what u guys think?? the problem is this, car stay nice and cool when moveing but at a stop she heats up, then if i move again she starts to cool down. does anyone have any suggestions? or ideas?

The suggestion is valid. The job of the fan shroud is to ensure that air is drawin only from through the radiator. Without it, air can be drawn from above and below, reducing the efficiency of the heat transfer when air is not otherwise forced over the fins. The shroud basically limits the air source and forces the fan to draw through the radiator.
