moving fan switch from pass. head to top of intake??

The temp sensor on the passenger head is way to close to my headers and I have moved it to the top of the intake on my HSR. Is this a good idea and what effect will it have on the ECM reading the actual temp of the engine? I take it that the coolant moves in a CCW rotation thoughout the engine and if that is true then the coolant in the passenger head would be at a slightly higher temp then the coolant near the thermostat right? Im just trying to get my cooling issues figured out now that I have removed my A/C.

The intake is about 10 degrees hotter than the head temp (at least it is on my car) so, if anything, you should be better off.

I had just the opposite result. When I mounted the temp sensor in the intaked temp dropped about 10*. If you want to install a temp sensor that will activate something (like electric fans) I would leave them in the head so it will activate sooner than it would in the intake.

well I would really like to leave the sensor plugged into the passenger head where it is suppose ot be but there is just not enought clearnace there and I am very afraid that the wire and plug will get burnt from the heat near the header tubes.

I ran mine there for 2 years with no problems, but if you KNOW it's going to be touching the header and get burnt then by all means move it to another location. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do and that's just the way it is since cars dont present a perfect world

Yes my wire got brown from the heat, but 2 years worth of street driving/racing and it never burnt through the plastic to expose any bare wire.

You can also try to use a 90 deg elbow fitting and screw the sender into that. You might be able to gain some wire clearance if it's pointing downward. I know SLP provided this elbow in their header installation kit just for that purpose.

Sensor

Hi,

Just out of curiosity, doesn't the sensor on that side control
the AC secondary fan and is not controlled by the ECM.
Also I have the SLP elbow that came with my headers and it works a little better and even wrapped it with some fire sleeve
that comes with them. Burn't the plug but not the wire.

There 1 3/4 on the way now for my new motor and may have to
find different location for it also.

Might try adjustable fan control switch for the fan to make up
for difference in temp to manifold. A thought!

Later
