thermostat question

Hey, my uncle told me something that i kinda forgot but if i go 160 thermostat, he said that it will screw up my car in the future. i think i have 180 right now but in order for a hypertech thermochip to work i need a 160 thermostat.

PS should i get the superchips one or the hypertech thermochip?

I have heard something along the lines of this too. Although I dont know anything specific as I don't know much about cooling. But engines were designed to run at a specific temp and a cooler thermo can mess that up sumtimes.

The general idea is that the thermostat opens too soon and the with the CTS reading for coolant temps for amounts of fuel, it adds more fuel because it thinks the engine is running cooler than it really is. This is speculation and I have seen arguments pointing in either direction. I have a 180 and that seems to be the happiest medium as far as temperature is concerned.

As far as either chips, off the shelf chips like that are do make you faster. They make your wallet lighter, thus making you faster. Thats about all they do. If you want to get the most out of a custom chip, have one burnt specifically for your car.
