need another fan?

Ok well today i swaped out the thermostat, put in a 160. Changed out the uper & lower hose, new hose from the intake to throttle body, drained the radiator, drained & cleaned the overflow. Re-Filled with 50/50 and added a bottle of redlines water wetter. The car does have the air dam underneeth. Its got an 18" electric fan from autozone thats on a remote switch. Got an edlebrock water pump, but yet its still overheating in and around town. However it does great on the highway where I can maintain 40+mph. Around time in stop and go traffic the temp will sometimes reach upwards of 240. I have to throw on the heater to keep her around 220. Do I need to add a pusher fan to the front of the radiator? Any suggestions on what kind of fan setups yall use?

Thanx,
Matt

Well, I think thats kinda normal for a third gen. My cooling sys. is all stock ecept for a 160* stat. The stock fan coolent sensor turned on the fan at 238*F and I drive around town between 220 and 240*and when I have the A/C on the temps run around 240 to 250*. Rad. cap is a 16# so coolent won't boil till 260*.

That's flat out not true. My car with all stock stuff ran 160* with a 160 thermostat. Stop and go or highway.

1. Get air bubbles out of system.
2. Get more accurate temp gauge to make sure its right.
3. Make sure engine is running properly.

when i filled the radiator today, i started it up with the radiator cap off, let it warm up and allow the thermostat to open up, when it opened up i added more coolant until the level was at the bottom of the filler neck. Afterwerds I took it out for a test spin, and within 10 minutes of driving it was passing 220. Im not real sure what happened but its never gone past 220 before. It got up to about 250 and i cranked on the heater. Motor seems to run fine, doesnt throw any codes, idles good, maybe a tad high after installing the new IAC and adjusting the minimium idle speed.

Well, from what I read and how my engine runs I think it is true. My engine will run 160 to 190* at hwy. speeds depending on the outside temp. My engine may run a little hotter because I removed the 305 and installed a 355 but I bought this car new and it has 58000 miles on it and has always run hot.
