sensor location

Hi, continuing my woes with 13 previous owners camaro. Finally resolving all the running problems ive had with her ( thanks SONIC & DAMON ) i took my car for its mot and while it was being ran up to temp for CO testing she overheated because the fan failed to come on. A quick by pass was set up to run the fan, but it failed the emissions because the CO was too high, now i believe that the coolant temp sensor controls the fan motor and plays a parts in fuel mixture. Is this correct ? if so is the unit fitted the stat housing that sensor ? if not can some one send me a photo of where its situated or any advice that might assist.

Should be operated by the computer, the temp sensor for this is a two wire deal. Look for a yellow and black wire, the yellow may look white though. If out of spec it could very well be messing up the emissions too.

Thanks, I take it the water neck is the stat housing at the front of the engine, is this a common problem with f body 5.0L
engines ?

Yes, that's the water neck.

As for the problem, whats common? The CTS failing or cars failing emissions? Both happen, emissions moreso than bad CTS's though.
