Goopy coolant

Goopy coolant

Just check the antifreeze in my radiator, and the cap and a think green goo all around the seal, and above it. Looked down into the radiator, and its mostly covered in the same stuff, kind of like the consistancy of vasoline, but light and darker green, as far as i know its never had the coolant mixed with another type. The car stays at 180, fans on or off. Will a coolant flush take this stuff out?

BTW: This is in the 1990 Civic i just bought. (now i can make the bird a little less streetable here comes 600+hp )

Don't bother with it. It's a Honda. It will run forever. You don't even need to change oil. Probably doesn't need gasoline, either. That's what they say, isn't it? Just put the cap back on (or, don't - whatever) and forget about it. It will be just fine. It's a Honda.

Seriously, it sounds like it is way overdue for a thorough cleaning, flush, and refill. If solids are precipitating out of the coolant and depositing in plain sight, the recesses of the engine are probably even worse.

Make sure you use the recommended coolant and mix it at the proper ratio BEFORE filling the system. They can take deceptively little coolant volume.

Or, don't worry about it. It's a Honda.

it saddens me that i actually broke down and got one, but i cant argue with the 35mpg im getting, and atleast its a 5spd, and i wont have to worry about messing up my pretty firebird in the rain or winters horrible weather, rust on the civic will be classified as a weight reduction

I dont know much about trouble shooting some of the lesser things of cooling systems, but i usually keep my stuff changed frequently enough that ive never had a problem with any of my cars, this one just wasnt taken care of as well as i take care of my domestics.

only has some 127,000 on it, im sure its time for a good flushing, will probly take it and have it hooked up for the flush next week.

I will never sell my Pontiac, unless its for a newer LS1 version

and if you dont happen to have any water/coolant around, you can use pretty much any kind of fluid you have around like brake fluid, oil, gasoline, and if you are the kind of guy who has to always add the coolant in the mix, cool aid works in honda's. Just keep adding it till it looks about the right color.

Well, i did the coolade trick, and it dissolved all the stuff in the rad, now its a bright blue
