Dual fan purpose??

I have a '91 RS with a single fan. I live in a hot climate area, wanting/going to convert to dual fans. My car does not have air conditioning though.... My question is, what was the purpose for installing dual fans, is it just for a/c cars??? or for the cars that had a 350 or options??? Also, I really dont want to wire in a toggle switch to the second fan and manually turn it on...It looks like then from what I am seeing is that my only other option is to wire it to come on with the first fan...Is this correct?? thanks for the help..

I would argue that it was for increased cooling, as my '85 T/A with A/C had just a single fan. There's nothing to say that you have to wire the second fan to a toggle, just make sure that the fan wiring can support two fans.

Yea better cooling you can also wire it up to a seperate relay. I think that the sticky ******* total fan control can help you with that.

I think the idea was to get air flow over more of the radiator, and maybe to use less current when the temps were not as high. A Ford Taurus fan will cool about anything, but draws about 100 amps on startup and 30 amps running, hard to supply that current back in the 80s. For the second fan you might put a separate temp switch in the head like the factory did on the earlier cars, use a lower temp switch though.
