Overheated No Start Questions

Well first i have a 85 Camaro Iroc 305 TPI Auto with about 77,000 on it now. Just today I checked my trans fluid it was a little low and I filled it up drove about 10min to the store to come back out to my car and it wouldnt start. Seemed to not be getting enough fuel so I had to give it some gas and ajust the idle screw to get her home, When It was started she was very hot and the fans cooled it down by the time I was home and was able to knock the idle back down and everything checked out good. All Fluids looked good, no misses and so forth. I have never had a problem with overhearting on this car ever. But it was running 220* down the highway and when I got off to fill up with gas the got hotter and died, hard restart and then had to let it cool down before getting back on the road. Not sure whats wrong. Water Pump is not making any noises or leaking. Radiator no leaks, hoses look good. It wasnt even boiling over or anything but just wouldnt restart easy after sitting for 1-20min after shutting off. Im thinking check the fan relay (fan doesnt stay on when I turn the ignition off or its a thermostat not acting right. Anybody whos has a thought it would be great as Im not close to home (6hours away) and dont want problems getting home on Monday, thanks guys

Replace the t stat and let us know if that works. A simple problem often turns into nitemares if we don't start with the basics.

run a fan bypass switch also.don't count on the factory systems to turn the fan on.They wait till it is almost redline before the computer will turn the fan on.These cars are notorius for not having enough air going through the radiators so the electric fan has to do alot of work to make up for it.I just leave my fan on all the time when I am messing around in city traffic.
