Is the heater core bypassed when the heat is turned off... Mine is leaking but I don't have time to replace it right away... 91 z28 with ac.

no it will continue leaking, get a piece of hose about 3 feet long, and disconnect the coolant hose on the back of your intake manifold, hook your new hose up to that, remove the hose on your radiator and hook up the new hose to that, this will bypass your heater core and keep it from leaking, it will still leak a little until all the coolant has run out of the heater core and lines. the hose's you will disconnect are all on the passenger side of the manifold and radiator, i think its 1/2" or 5/8" hose
