Easiest way to drain radiator?

I have a 1992 305TPI Z28. I have a hole in my radiator and am replacing it. Is there a good way to drain the radiator. It seems there is no plug and the metal piece directly below blocks where I would drain from the lower hose. Any suggestions or is this destined to be a messy task?

I have always just used one of those big black oil pans from our local auto parts store. Threw it under the car and pulled the lower radiator hose from the block side. Sometimes the rad. side when the smog pump is actually still connected. That ususually catches everything. Maybe a few drops splashed, thats all.

There is a petcock in the lower corner of the radiator. Just below the lower radiator hose, I think. Been a long time since I've messed with one. There is a small hole in the lower radiator support that it drains through. Unscrew it enough so it just pees out. One of those big catch pans like mentioned above should be more than sufficient.

What about the plug(s) on the block ? Haven't checked it out myself, do they go back in, or does one have to get some kind of replacements ?
