smashed my fan switch sensor. connection question

So i smashed my sensor to bits installing headers on a '87 350 tpi. i've ordered the sensor from a company that stockes them here in the U.K but i think i've knackered the connection too. heres a pic of the connection. can anyone put a name to the type of connector ?? rang numerous companies over here but no one can help me.

Is it a special type of connector is something that can be brought of the shelf.

A simple problem but one thats giving me a headache
----------
here is whats left of the switch. i did a search and i found out that if i went to a Gm dealership they could get me the connection no probs but due to my location its not an option in the U.k

A replacement pigtail for that switch is available from TPIParts, a board sponsor. Another option that may work for you is to crimp a spade type connector onto a new sensor. You may even be able to crimp another connector onto the remaining conductor from your existing sensor. My '87 looked exactly like that when I got it with a male-end spade connector crimped onto it. Still works fine.

Thanks for the reply naf.

so any metal connection can be used as long as i can get it crimped on ? its just the old connection seemed as though it went right inside the sensor.

As long as the switch still works you may be fine. You've probably only broken the ceramic insulator around the conductor on the sensor. I'd try a crimp-on connection, maybe with some heat shrink to insulate, and see how it works.

If it doesn't work, perhaps you can get someone over here to send you one priority mail, and the connectors are cheap/free/+plentyful in the local do-it-yourself salvage yards over here.

Re: smashed my fan switch sensor. connection question

The switches and the connectors are available from several online sources like TPIParts.net, Summit, Jegs, etc., as well as just about any auto parts stores and GM dealers. The connector is a pretty standard, commonly used part for different applications, so it might go by a few different 'technical' names. For example, it's the same kind of connector that's used on the knock sensor.

Some aftermarket switches, like Hypertech, come with new connectors.

Yours is prolly still good though. Break all the old plastic off of the metal probe of the connector, and the probe should still slide into the switch and will prolly stay in place securely enough to work for as long as it takes you to get around to putting in a new switch and connector.
