Bad Overheating Problem!!

Alright, me and some friends went out to lunch today for about an hour...at first the temp gauge was fine...needle hovering around just below 105 mark...which was a bit hot then usual...so i thought nothing of it where it is a milder day then usual...then all of a suddon the temp gauge spikes right on up into the red at around 125 then in a matter of seconds drops back down below 105...i know my temp gauge isnt bad cause on the way back to school after lunch the needle was up around 125 and stayed there. when we got out and poped the hood there was Rad fluid all over the ground and all over the engine bay and was bubbling back into the plastic tank like somethin sick....2 hours later when i went out to go home after school i checked the temp before starting up the car and it was around 40, so i start to drive home...matter of 2 minutes it was back up to 105 and climbing so i pull into an Irving and put some water in the rad and it stayed around 40 the whole way home...sorry for the long post but im kinda worried about what it might be lol...any ideas?....thanks

Re: Bad Overheating Problem!!

no the thermostate is fine cause i just went out and checked the top hose of the rad to the engine and its hot...means the thermostat was open...im gonna try and flush the rad and engine out and get all the old fluid out and put new stuff in and see if that works...but i still dont see how old fluid would cause rad fluid to leak all over the place......thanks anyways

I guess the fan was on and the air dam is installed. Checking the top rad hose in not way to tell. Look up "conduction".

Re: Bad Overheating Problem!!

hmm well i was just thinking about it...the more i think about it the more it seems like it was a lot of pressure building up in the cooling system causing it to leak fluid around the hose fittings...cause air was bubbling into the overflow tank like crazy and prior to that i know the rad wasn't full of fluid..think the air could of heated up in the rad, expanded and caused the pressure???? thanks for the replies guys.
