A/C compressor with V belts and vortec heads and intake

Anyone run vortec heads with a v-belt set up and have an air conditioning compresser hooked up?

What I am mostly interested in is the top bracket that bolts to the intake. On old intake it was set at an agle with the intake manifold bolts. I am a pretty poor fabricator, so any pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

If this is in the wrong forum please move it or let me know. Thanks again!

Yes. On my '87 I used the performer intake for vortec heads and there is a bolt hole for the reinforcing bracket that runs to the intake similar to stock. I don't recall the stock one mounting to one of the manifold to head bolts?

Looked, took a photo and yes it appears the performer intake for vortec provided an accessory mount for the bracket in the same location as one of the stock manifold mounting holes. See attached.

Re: A/C compressor with V belts and vortec heads and intake

naf, your awsome, I figured you'd know. I know for sure I have that mounting hole (the one by the carb pad that the bar is hooked to). What is that bracket bolted to on the very front of the intake manifold? Just below where the bar bolts to the bracket, more to the center of the vehicle.

Is this a pic of your car? Is there any way to get more? Like one from the opposite side of that bracket, and one where the bracket originally hooked to the exhaust manifold.

I have the large a/c compressor bracket. The one I am having problems with is the one that had the engine hoist hole in it on the front, drivers side of the intake manifold. It had a little 90 deg. ear on it that also bolted it to the back of the large, main a/c bracket.

Sorry to be such a pest, but you seem to have already done all the things I am trying to do.

Thanks man! I already owe you big!

This is the bracket I am trying to find a substitute for. Circled in yellow.

Re: A/C compressor with V belts and vortec heads and intake

Sorry it took me a while to get back, I must have missed the notice that you had posted...

I did not reinstall the d-shaped bracket that braces the head mounted A/C bracket to the manifold. I would have had to trim and bend it to fit and figured it would always look 'rigged'. I set it aside in case i'd need it later, but I've been using the A/C quite frequently with no problems.

The bracket that connected to the exhaust manifold studs was trimmed to clear the headers. I retained the stock stud for the forward most header bolt and reattached it with just the one exhaust manifold mounting point. Again, no worries.

May have to wait until Tuesday when I go back to work for pics. My daughter's lost the charger for her (my) camera. I'll check my hard drive though as I snapped a few while I was swapping heads.
