Heater Box/Blower Motor problems.

Ok so i have removed the A/C from my car. Had the A/C box in there for quite some time, anyway got a heater box only. Swaped the resistors and made jumper cables for the connector on the blower motor itself. First off i have no idea why but the fan is rubbing on the firewall and making a loud rubbing issue. If i loosen the fan or box and pull it out some it doesnt rub anymore. I have confirmed the fan works with all speeds but i cant get any air out the vents...? Not sure why i get a very very small amount of air to come out. So any help on why the fan motor is hitting the firewall and also why the vents wont blow any air. The resistor shouldnt matter i just swapped it over from the A/C box to the heater box.

Ive also removed the heater diverter valve and im not sure what to do with that vacuum hose that connected to it. Do i plug it, leave it open, or find another source for vacuum?

Any help would be appreciated its got me a little confused.

Re: Heater Box/Blower Motor problems.

Just plug up the heater control vacuum. Is it possible to tell exactly what the fan's rubbing on and possibly remove or bend the hell out of whatever it is? whatever it's rubbing on could be keeping the fan from getting up to any decent speed to push air through your vents. double check the flow coming out of your defroster vents because that is the default if you have a problem with the ports in your A/C diverter box that directs the air to the various vents.

Ya thanks for the reply. Ive been finishing up other stuff on the car recently but i know just because the way the hvac system works it needs vacuum to move the vents, and i think you are correct that the fan isant spinning fast enough because its scraping so bad.

Ive pulled it out the end of the fan literally is just scraping the firewall...it wont be that hard to fix its just i shouldnt have this problem in the first place!

Re: Heater Box/Blower Motor problems.

Is that the fan that came with the box?? Mine did the same thing. I found one on a v6 car and I put it in mine. It made noise. A new fan especially made for this from any auto parts store (yes they carry them) should do it. Autozone, Napa etc. all carry the motor and the fan itself. I think the motor was around 10-15 bucks and the fan was about 5-10. Worth it, especially if they are worn.

On the side note. I found it "interesting" that they had 92 Trans/am with code F and 8 ac-less motor that fits in the early boxes. I wasn't aware of an ac delete on 92 trans/ams but they fit the damn box well and make no noise.

Give it a shot.

Ya its the same fan that came with the box. Thats kinda interesting my friend just put one in his 91 RS that was the same box pretty much and he didnt have a problem.

Did you ask over the counter or was it out on the shelves? I mean if i go to the desk do i tell them what year car or what.

Thanks for the help.

Yeah, I had them check out an 89 trans am for sure, and they had one.

I asked for mine 92 and they had one in stock.

Yeah, just ask over the counter. I don't know about your stores, but if they do get ****, just ask for earlier V6 car or iron duke, and they should have it.
