cylinder head pipe thread size?

Hey, what size is the pipe thread hole in the cylinder heads? This is for the temperature gauge on the drivers side.
I want to replace the plug on my passenger side with a thermal switch for electric fans, and I want to get the right fitting (before I remove the plug to measure it)

Thanks

3/8" npt IIRC, there's only 3 choices typically, 1/4" ; 3/8" ; 1/2" all NPT threads from any hardware store.

Some heads are 1/2, some are 3/8.

Re: cylinder head pipe thread size?

Yea, I knew it had to be 3/8" or 1/2" NPT. I was at Gregg distributor buying a thermal switch and the 1/2" looked too big, but I was unsure, so I didn't buy it. I don't want to have all my coolant in a bucket when I realize I bought the wrong one.
These are 416 305 heads.

Thermal switch - would I be able to nab one at the wreckers? Any thoughts on closed circuit temperature? I'm thinking 190°F or so, with my 180°F t-stat.
