coolant is boiling
coolant is boiling
Hey guys, i have an 85 camaro with the 2.8 liter. The coolant after about 10 min of driving, starts to boil, and today the cap blew off and i got coolant everywhere. I just need to know why the eng is overheating so fast and why the coolant is boiling?

Re: coolant is boiling
Check the upper radiator hose. If there is no coolant in it, then it is the thermostat which isn't a big deal and not by any means expensive. If there is coolant, check the cooling fans to make sure that they come on.

Flush your cooling system with a garden hose. And make sure your putting the cap on tight.

Re: coolant is boiling
kittycannon, before you install your new thermostat verify the temp it opens at. I use a pocket thermometer from my kitchen, a glass measuring cup and microwave, there are other ways. Heat the water to about 25 + degrees above the thermostat rating and watch for it to open while the thermometer is also in the measuring cup. You want to know what temp it opens at. I checked a 170 thermostat before I installed it and it did not start to open until 200 and fully open at 220! The high flow 180 thermostat I was going to replace opened at 180 and fully open at 190 so I put it back in. Always check them before installation.
