what does this hose accomplish??
what does this hose accomplish??
I was wandering maybe some would know, but alot of older chevy small blocks and big blocks had like a bypass line that comes out of front of intake and goes into top of water pump? is this essential? do i need it? if i dont use it what happens? just curious...

I had one on my old el Camino. all i know is the old style blocks and set up were so easy to air lock. I always thought it was just another hose for cooling or possibly to keep the pressure down. When mine went bad it was a pain in the butt to fix when it was 20 degrees out and rubber hose does not want to flex.
i always thought ignorance was bliss b/c if i knew how it worked then it would break and i would have to fix it right away. lol.

yeah it keeps system from locking it also bypases the stat not total nes but it does help it stay cooler
