overheating 87 gta
would the fact that my coolant resevoir in the gta i just bought has a huge hole in the side have anything to do with my water temp being in the red and not coming down? I know that it was splashing around in the bay when i was bringin it home and that was causing it to smoke, but would that make it overheat? There was still plenty of coolant in the resevoir below the hole.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: overheating 87 gta
Probably not. It sounds like the fan/fans are not coming on or the thermostat may be stuck in the closed position. Check your fan operation first and if it is ok check the thermostat. Where was the smoke coming from?

Re: overheating 87 gta
i think the smoke was just the coolant that was splashing around evaporating on the block. We drove it out to my tech school today and b4 we left we put coolant directly into the radiator instead of the rfesevoir and it didnt smoke. It did still overheat though. My fans are running. I'll get a new t-stat and see if that helps. I was also told that since my airdamn under the front bumper isnt bolted up in the front its blocking the air thats supposed to be coming up and cooling to the radiator and that it could be contributing to my overheating problem. I know the tranny problem was helpin overheat it because its only running first and second gear and it tends to wanna stay in first. But we're fixing that tomorrow. The cables werent fully extended when the guy i bought it off of put the tranny in and that whats causing it. After we get that done ill see if that helps with the overheating at all.
