Overheating puzzel
Overheating puzzel
Ok i have a 1992 Camaro with the 3.1 v6...
The car is contantly overheating in traffic but staying cool on the highway. The heat blew hot and kept it around 220 but when driving it was around 190 to 195 like the thermostat i had in there. I was driving the other day and the heat stoped blowing hot and went straight to cold. I have the termo. taken out and noticed that the fan dosent seem to kick on at all. If any one knows how to fix please help!

so the fans don't turn on at all. The driver one should turn on, but the passenger one comes in with the a/c. If you put a fan switch in there it should cool it down.

Squire08, try Jet part # 60600 available from Summit or Jegs and others. It turns the fan on at 195-200 and off at 180-185. I`ve got one on my `88 Iroc 383 TPI and it works well. You may also want to replace the thermostat with one from Stewart, also from Summit or Jegs, part # EMP 301. It`s a 180 with 3 3/16th`s bypass holes machined in it so you always have some coolant flow. They also have 160 and 195 thermostats with the same features. You might also check the wire to your fan switch, they get burnt from exhaust heat and fall off. Locate your fan switch wire, ground it and the fan should turn on. Make sure to have the key in the run position when you check it.
