I'm legally blind and I've done quite a bit to my car, I'll be the first to admit, I don't know everything... That's why I love this board so much...

My car & cooling system has quite a few miles on it... I've drained and replaced coolant, etc... no leaks... all is good...

At some point, I want to do a flush... Some say great, other's say no...
What's up?

After the flush (or not) I want to replace the radiator hoses & possibly the heater hoses.

Now I know the upper and lower are easy enough... but the heater ones, do they go to the fire wall, or inside the firewall to the heater core?

Lastly, I don't mind paying more for better hoses, example the Goodyear High Miler ones (though I would prefer a different color than blue) or should I just get metal ones for just the radiator?

If metal, what size / length?

well you should change the hoses before the flush.
also use a mild chemical flush and use distilled water. that will keep it nice and clean.

but the lower hose is not bad. the bad part is getting the "compression" clamps off. i used channel locks.

anyway just twist and pull with the car cold and fluid drained.

the heater lines you can get from autozone. they are preformed and only require taking the clamps off, the hose and reversing the process.

I used the regular Goodyear heater hoses and the quality seems very good!

i would also suggest a packet of hose dressing to help put it on. It made mine sooo much easier.

Good luck. and you should probably get a hanes manual too while you are at it to help you visualize it better.

OK, I don't want to appear rude and I'm sure everybody else is too nice to say anything, but, you say you are legally blind? And you drive around? What state do you live in where this is not a problem? Or is this just a situation where you slap some glasses on and you can see now. Just wondering, don't bite my head off.

legally blind and still wont quit on the third gen hats off to you man but i would say just get replacement hoses i cant see there being that much of a benefit with aftermarket ones

Do you get anybody to take you for a spin once in a while? As for the hoses, don't waste your money on the Goodyear stuff, just get some good ole Gates brand and your good to go, and somebody turned me on to these http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...0002_928184_-1 and I love them, they work better then the worm gear hose clamps, look lots better and will never leak. Only thing is you have to cut them off to remove the hose.

gates clamps don't look bad. I wouldn't waste your money on the goodyear hoses either the base hoses are just as good and cost way less. I don't know if I would use the gates clamps though. I have all my heating and cooling setup to use Aeroquip (braided s/s) stuff so definitely overkill but it will match my fuel lines.
