AC question?????

I am not sure this is the right board but I have an AC question.
I have an 87 TA & it is on it's second compressor since I bought the car in 1987 new. The first seized up after one year, the second lost all of the R-12 out of the shaft seal 2 years ago.
Now my question is if there is a reliable replacement that I can get.
I have read about a revised seal on some newer compressors.
I would be grateful for any help I can get with this problem.

Re: AC question?????

Are you having the system flushed before installing these new compressors? If not then thats probably whats eating the new ones up.

After a least two failures with remans (and possibly three), I finally went GM. No problems since.

Re: AC question?????

I don't think it is a flushing problem because the failures were 19 years apart but
only about 25,000 miles elapsed since the car is now 21 years old & only has 30,000 miles on it. The intent of my question was to get more info on the seal kit upgrade I have read about. Everytime I see it mentioned the article never states if it was a redesign or what. I too am leaning towards a new GM compressor. I will have to flush the system & replace the O-rings because I will be converting over to R-134 from R-12 since it is too costly to use R-12 again.
