coolant leak
coolant leak
apparently a previous owner jimmy rigged one of the radiator hoses. i took my iroc out for a drive today mile or so and popped the hood and noticed moisture so i said huh wonder what that is. then saw coolant leaking out of a plug type device on my radiator. it looks to be cracked but i was trying to figure out is someone just got lazy or if one can block it off. i have the regular coolant hose on top and then the plug and then a 3rd metalic(ac?) type line under that. The second hole is plugged by a rubber cap and metal clamp? I thought it was some kind of return but maybe not??
thanks

Re: coolant leak
If your radiator is like the one on my 85 Z28, there are three connections just under the radiator cap on the passenger side. The smallest top line goes to the coolant recovery tank. The next one down goes to the heater core and on the replacement radiator I just installed today, it came with a rubber cap and clamp over it. I wanted my heater core hooked up, so I took off the cap and connected the line. Maybe the P.O. of your car left this capped, possibly because the heater core leaks and it is a PITA to replace (as I know myself!). The metal line is the return transmission cooler line (the inlet is at the very bottom, just under the lower radiator hose connection).
