Temperature gauge sender, and whats the one in the stat casting?

I intended to post this to find out where my temperature gauge sender unit is located, however I've just done a search and found that its on the drivers side of the head between cylinders 1 & 2. Is it easy to see from above, or is it burried around the header somewhere?

If the temp guage sender is on the side, then what is this sensor on the thernostat housing? My car is carbed '87.

The EFE valve, located between the pass side exhaust manifold and Y, is operated by a thermal vacuum switch (TVS) in the water neck.

Here's the answer to you other question (yours will look different):

Thanks James, I changed the RAG joint over the winter (I've only just got the car back on the road after the salt season), I think I may have disturbed it while doing that. I'll check when I get home.

Thanks.
