Can somebody out there please give me a clear definition as to how I can delete my control valve? I have no a/c installed and just want to clean up the engine bay. All the other posts seem as if everyone has their own way of doing it. Pics would be appreciated as well as the routing of each hose.

What kind of engine do you have? TBI? TPI? If it's tbi I can help you if it's TPI Then I'm not to sure.
its a 350 TBI motor with the stock 305 TBI heater hose routing.
thanks.
thanks.

There are some pictures in here that should give you a pretty good idea of how I rerouted mine. Takes everything out of the way but leaves it functional.
http://www.geocities.com/tzfbird/tzfbird.html Go to Diverter Valve Relocation on the right. The pictures kind of suck, but it's an idea at least.

Here's a good thread with what you'd like to do. I did the same thing but instead of using a plastic elbow I just used a 7 inch 5/8's heater hose and ran it from the coolant port on the back the the intake to the firewall. It work for 2 years before I took out the whole heating system.

rather than make a new thread, does anyone have the way to do it on a TPI car
from the pics it looks just like the TBI. Just run the heater box to the hose that goes behind the manifold, behind the dizzy? And plug the manifold hole?

Orr or whoever,Is there a place on the back of the tpi to plug into?I have mine bypassed but one line still runs down between the runners and valve cover.I`ve been Thinking of runnin it down by the fender but that sounds even better.

shadygrady, what exactly was your routing when you deleted the diverter... and does it eliminate the heat the way you did it?

the vacuum line that goes to that valve..its said to plug it?(once you bypass) well where does it go to? i would rather plug it at the source(20+ year old) vacuum line break and crack easy....i have a TPI by the way not sure if it would be much different
87 Irocz383 you have a pm.Red/white04 The hose you have to plug is a hard plastic line.It goes through and into the wiring harness.Looks to me like it meets up there with a hose that goes to the vacume canister.

there are two hard plastic lines, one went into the back of the intake and the other to the diverter valve...well they both broke at the same time so i tried to plug one and run the other to the back of the intake...still no dice...so i switched them around thinking i had them backwards... and still it won't switch off of defrost...is there anything else it could be....i know there is vacuum cause when i unhook the line i can heard the pressure release.
The one that goes to the back of the intake needs to be there.IIRC the one im talking about is a hard plastic line about an 1/8th of an inch. The one that goes to the back of my intake is larger and softer.I only remember one vacume hose going to my diverter valve.do you have a digi camera you can post pics with.Mine is broken.I`ll try to barrow one to show you what I`m talking about. The cap on mine was cracked last week and my heat would only blow out the defrost vents.I capped it with a new cap and it fixed it right away.
The small hose i`m talking about went into the harness right next to the trans. dip stick. It has been the culprit to my problem.

both of the two line i mentioned enter the harness that is right next to the dipstick, and enters the inside of the car, and in mine they are both hard plastic about 1/8inch line, my camera is bust at the moment...i'll see if i can borrow one but i'm going out of town for a few days...

i have the tbi 305 and this is a pic of what i did with mine.

Lowes sells a 3/4" copper water shut off valve. Same length as original vacuum part. It's great. manual handle on in the winter and off in the summer. about $12 IIRC.

Kind of what I m looking to do with mine. Any issues and or performance of the valve or system once complete?
No, works good. Mine is marked TX200BXB. Oh, I forgot... plug the small hard plastic vacuum hose to prevent a vacuum leak.

This is what I did with my TPI car. I got a 90 degree fitting from True Value for like 2 bucks along with about 7 feet of 3/4 inch heater hose. I still want to clean it up alittle more but for now it works great..Originally Posted by DRIVE2FAST

Much better then stock, but doesn't look like you really need that 90. One piece of continuous hose would serve you better, both visually and mechanically. Less fittings/clamps = less places for possible leaks and are gaudy in the spotless engine bay Originally Posted by robertfrank
