thermostat question

Hows it going?

i have a 160 degree thermostat in my 305 TPI. the engine's average operating temp is around 155 and 160. and my fuel economy is poor and the engine runs excessively rich. is the low operating tempreature causing the computer to stay in open loop? should i go to a 180 thermostat. the engine occasionally will reach 190 when i an driving on the highway up to my house in the mountains. any advise would be helpfull

Thanks
Jack

Re: thermostat question

Unless you replaced the Prom in the ECM to use 160 deg thermostat, that could be the problem. Best temperature choice would be a 180deg one.
