$1385!!!

I figured something around the 5-600$ mark, but the service guy at my local Chevy place said it was around $1100 for just LABOR ($104/hr).

It looks I'm back out to the garage to figure out how to get those last two screws.

Any hints? I'm referring to the two screws (when looking at the dash face on) in the upper left. I can feel the top middle screw with my fingers but can't get a long socket to grab it straight (coming from the top with the dash pad off). I have the ECM pulled out but it's crazy tight up under there.

 

If you pull the dash pad out you can see the srews much better,Takes 5 mins.I used a couple long 1/4 ext with a swivel on the end.

 

Welcome to TGO. Crazy's right. Do it yourself for the cost of the core, $20-$40. No pulling the ECM, cruise module or dash pad. Check the following link for some info that may be helpful:

HA! With that price and the low book values our cars have, they can consider the vehicle totaled because of a bad heater core!

 

That's so true! I got the car for $1700 in fairly decent condition, so the core is a few hundred bucks under what I paid. Ouch!

I'm going to give the core operation another go in the next couple of days. I have a new core ready to go. Heck, by the time I get this issue resolved, it'll be summer and I won't need heat.

 

when i did mine in my 91 rs i just pulled the whole dash and was able to get to it real easy
