Manual Switch 84 Z
I've had a manual switch for my 84 Z since i bought it, i didn't hook it up. yesterday i did a oops and melted the power wire. So i want to rewire the whole thing so i know what i am working with. I have done several searches but they all talk about tbi and tpi motors that have fans controlled by the ECU, i don't have a ecu, completely mechanical motor. The switch i have has a light in it so i know when it's on, ive heard this is a bit more difficult. i need help fast so anything you guys have to say that is helpful is appreciated! thanks

Re: Manual Switch 84 Z
I once helped a buddy rig up a whole new fan circuit
on an '89 2.8 firebird(original setup had been badly
cobbled and wasFUBAR),heres how the new setup was
made:Ran a wire with 30a fuse from the alternator
output post to a relay(of the type often used for aux.
lights),other side of relay contacts to fan.ran a switched
ignition wire with 1a fuse to relay coil,on ground side
of relay coil hooked up a flex-a-lite adjustable fan
switch(don't remember#,had sensing bulb with
capillary tube)took off upper radiator hose, stuck
sensing bulb into hose and reinstalled with some
silicone rubber to seal around where the capillary
tube goes between the hose and the radiator fitting
set fan turn on temp to about 210*(195 coolant
thermostat)-still working great 7yrs later.
If A/C was in use, could have hooked up a 2nd
small relay to the A/C clutch to ground the fan
relay's coil, manual overide switch could also be
hooked up to ground the fan relay coil.
