Fan clutch?

I want to retrofit my Camaro with a mechenical fan and thermal clutch. Since I have an early 90's style serpentine system, my water pump is a reverse rotation. Therefore, I know I need a reverse rotation fan like this one: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...2D5917&FROM=MG

The only problem is, I can't seem to find a thermal fan clutch that says it is a reverse rotation. Some are designated as standard rotation, and some don't say anything at all. Are the clutches nondirectional, or do I need one that says it is reverse rotation? No way am I going to run one without a clutch.

P.S.- Please don't tell me to keep my electric fan. I know you mean well, but I really don't want to.

Re: Fan clutch?

I'm pretty sure fan clutches will work both directions,
though i beleive the bolt circle is different between the
reverse and standard rotation GM clutches. GM vehicles
you could check for a reverse rotation complete clutch
fan are '91-93 caprice-blades are same design as '81
-85 camaro,but is reverse rotation,or earlier 4.3 s-10
I haven't checked the diameter of either of those though
-camaro shrouds use 18.5" fan,firebird 17"
If a used fan clutch is obtained, there are 3 possible
faults that be present:
-damaged bearing from impact to the front
-seized bearing
-silicone fluid leaked out
With a new clutch,the dreaded"made in china"is best
avoided-seen some of those on EBAY-LOL.

Re: Fan clutch?

I took one apart at one time, and from what I could see there were details indicating to me that it wouldn't work properly in the reverse direction.
