A/c compressor cycling on and off

My A/C compressor cycles on and off and blows warm air when the car is Idling. But when I'm driving it says constant and blows cold. I tried recharging it and the gauge was saying that my pressure was really high, especially once it started cycling on and off. Does anyone have any Ideas?

It is possible to overfill them, but cycling on and off at idle is usually a low psi.

It is also possible for I believe it is the condenser unit to gain a leak. One thing that could be done is have an auto shop discharge and recharge the system, purge it for any potential moisture in the system, and also use one of their little sniffer devices to see if there is a leak in the system and from where.

That would be my best advice.

Re: A/c compressor cycling on and off

It sounds like your cooling fan is not coming on with the a/c. This leads to overheating of the condenser and therefore high pressures. An overpressure switch is most likely shutting off the compressor to protect it..

I see you have another post about the same issue (that has a correct answer imho), but I figure a reply here too is in order.
