Frustrated by Heater Core.
Frustrated by Heater Core.
I changed it out. Followed all the steps and it was fine for about two days. Now it's leaking again, worse than before. What's the probability that I got a bad core? Also one of the hoses wasn't long enough to put back on so we extended it with a piece of pipe that was a little long and had a bend in the tubing would that have caused it to "blow out" part of the heater core? I know I should have taken the time to get an elbow or rerun the whole hose but it had been one of "those" days with the heater core... Any help would be great...

the connections to the core are soldered together, maybe even epoxy if you got a really crappy one. If you wrestle with the tubes, its quite possible you broke the joint.
You are sure its not leaking from you extension piece and running into the car right?

Not 100% it's actually my bf's car and I haven't really gotten into it to look. With the amount that was on the floor I think it probably got cracked when we were getting it in...one of the tubes had to get moved a lil far...I guess we'll have to spend another 25 bucks and try again..this time I'm going to get the right hose and do it the right way. But I'll check that.

If it is leaking in the car you cracked a pipe. I just put a core in my 92 and I cracked mine. I had to move the pipes to get it to fit and when I got it to fit properly I took it back out and had to weld up the cracks. Mine did not fit very well at all and I got two of them and they were both terrible (NAPA). You can take it back out and take a torch and some plumbers solder and it will seal it up. I could not believe how poorly it fit. You can also compare the tube bends from your old one to the new one and bend it accordingly to get it to fit better or thats what I did to get mine to finally seat. the pipes finally went through enough for the hoses to go on. It was an hour job that took two days.
