Swirch to R134a ?
Hello all, I have an 87 Formula with 95k miles and the compressor is about to fail. It has a bad vibration at idle and it appears to be leaking the oil out of the front. I am thinking of switching it to R-134A because if the obvious price issue. Can someone please tell me what components that i will need to swap besides the compressor? I don't know if i need to change it all or just certain pieces. Thanks in advance.

I have changed over 3 vehicles that I own. I did not have any major failures, just a leak that caused me to loose a bunch of r12. I bought kits that had oil that you force in through the low pressure side. Bypass the low pressure switch, and fill with 134a. I did not replace any parts. You do need to evacuate all the old R12. There are several ways to do it, but it should be recovered by the proper method.

I would consider an accumulator, orifice tube and O rings the minimum to change out during a R134 conversion.
