fan problem

ok ive got a 91 camaro with a 305 tbi and when i bought it the guy riged the fan with an alligator clip. so everytime i was about to go out i had to pop the hood and connect the clip to the battery.so my buddy and my rewired it to a toggle switch. 1 wire goes to the accessury fuse and the other to the fan. now the problem is it is going though switchs like crazy. the first one we put in lasted 3 days then it must have burnt up.the second one lasted for about 5 months then it finally went up today. the third one i put in today lasted all but to times starting and driving the car. what could the problem be help im really gettin pissed off

Re: fan problem

I got 2 91 Camaros and have the same problem...got a new relay, which happens to be the same exact relay you would need for your fuel pump located on the firewall behind master cylinder. Unfortunately, the fans still wouldn't work. I'd check the temp switch and wiring.
I just wired in a switch, but off of a relay. No blown swiches or fuses this way...
this is best as a temporary solution until you can find out where your problem is. Your fan should keep running after your engine is shut down if the temp is high enough, but wont do that with a switch...

Re: fan problem

Not sure, but it sounds like you have 12 volts running through your switch. You would be much better off by using the switch to provide a ground for the fan relay to the wire that originally came from the fan switch. Check out the fan wiring descriptions in the technical articles section for assistance.
