Replacing HVAC vacuum line harness
My a/c never blew air (hot or cold) out of the vents. I found the orange hose on the vacuum hose harness behind the a/c switch panel is broken off which hopefully is the cause. I obtained a good used harness at the junk yard which didn't take much to get it out since the dash was mostly gutted and taken off. Anyway, I'm going to try and replace this harness tomorrow which means taking the dash out (crap!). I've never taken the dash out of my car before. Any pointers to make the job easier? Thanks in advance.

You can always repair the line. That would be easier than replacing the whole harness if it requires pulling the dash. Anyway, the vacuum lines only switch the modes of the doors(defrost, floor, vent, etc). If you're not able to switch from hot or cold, there is a cable that does this. I would make sure that the cable is hooked up and operating properly.

Air does blow, just not out the doors. Sorry forgot to mention that on my previous post. I've tried repairing the hose with superglue but started to notice it was just clogging the hose. I guess I'm going to have to pull the dash. Crap! If I encounter anything, I'll post up again.

7mm socket on a small 6 volt drill with a 1/4" drive adapter will get you most of the way with the dash. There are some small torx bits too, I'd get a 1/4" drive set of them. I wanna say like T15 or T20 but I could be mistaken.

Re: Replacing HVAC vacuum line harness
As for progress, I ran into a problem which will hold me up a little longer to actually get this done
. It turns out that the vacuum hose harness I got from my local junk yard (which I've had for a while) isn't the same as the harness on my car. The one on my car has the purple hose split into a "y". One of the purple hoses that splits out the "y" is broken. The junk yard piece has the purple hose go in one direction only meaning I won't get a perfect swap like I thought I was. It sucks cuz I already removed the console and radio pod and now I will have to put it back together until I find the correct harness. If I remeber correctly, I pulled the junk yard piece from a base firebird thinking it would all be the same. Wrong! Supreme Member

Re: Replacing HVAC vacuum line harness
sounds like maybe you got an earlier model, prior to the addition of the coolant bypass valve (I think).

Re: Replacing HVAC vacuum line harness
I just about put everything back together but it got a little too cold so I stopped for the night. I did find a few more 'surprises' though: 1) 2 plastic thin vacuum lines which were just tucked under the dash that I managed to pull into the interior with a little tug. One of the vacuum lines comes from the broken section of the purple hose from the HVAC controls. The other comes from the blue hose. Both these lines aren't connected to anything. 2) A larger diameter plastic vacuum hose thats just sticks out not connected to anything; it curves in the direction leading under the passenger's side somewhere. 3) About 1 foot section of rubber hose similar to the rubber vacuum hoses in the engine. This had both ends not connected to anything. I found lots of hacked wiring as well but thats another story. Any idea where these hoses belong? Thanks for the input given. I appreciate it.
