bypassing oil cooler and heater diverter valve

its been really cold down here lately, and the po bypassed the heater core, so i went and bought a new heater core and installed it, and then i had to buy new hoses since the po got rid of the old ones, so today i started hooking up hoses, i ran a hose directly from the intake, to the heater core, and then back into the radiator, my diverter valve is broken, and i found out today that i have a factory oil cooler, so i took it out of the loop too, i ran out of hose so i had to

question is, is it ok to run it like this, are there any downsides of not having the oil cooler hooked up? at least until i get enough cash to buy more hose, and get the diverter valve?

thanks

The story got kind of cut off, but yes, it's o.k. to run the heater core directly from the intake and to the rad and to leave the oil cooler nipples unhosed.
