Cooling/therm./toggle switch.

I was running my 355ci with a 170 thermostat until it up and broke. sooo, story short I just pulled it and left the thermostat out, hooked a toggle switch to a set of dual fans. One iIhave installed in normal raqdiator location and the other is suspended in the circular hood scoop obove the air cleaner both are wired to two toggle switches. If I turn either one on it'll run at 110-130. If i flip both on it'll run dead on at 100 deg. Now, if I flip them both on as soon as start up it woulnt go over 80 deg. I find this dumbfounding yet i built this motor over 4 years ago, never detonated once with 11:1 compression. Now I'm assuming the colder the better, but is this just TOO cold? or a potential malfunction waiting to happen?, (wish i still owned a camera to show the setup). Your input and thoughts are more than welcome I would love some opinions

I would love to see some pics of this car! I hope this is a track car only and you don't drive it everyday. My 88 GTA w/ a 350 and factory dual fans never overheated and it was black.

You say the other is suspended in the circular hood scoop above the air cleaner. I also would really like to see a photo. of that . Ive never heard of such a thing.

Re: Cooling/therm./toggle switch.

Well. thats because i built it. haha, went through high school wanting to be an engineer, i loved to build things be it wood shop or w/e, still in college at the moment though. Its not the most blissful if building. The hood I bought had a circular hole cut in it so the "pie" would stick out. Simple welded two (4"L x 3"w) pieces of metal underneath the hood in locations that would accommodate bolting locations for the fan and then I simply welded a hood scoop over the hole so the fan wasnt sticking out

Re: Cooling/therm./toggle switch.

I've heard that running too cold wears out your engine more. I'm not too sure about how accurate the source of it is, but theres a graph here http://www.carnut.com/ramblin/_cool3.html

It also affects fuel atomization and gas mileage.
