87 V6 Core Support vs V8 Core Support

Sorry if there is already a thread on this.

K so i havent touched my 87 Camaro in a while. It always ran HOT.

Last i remember, is i discovered it was originally a V6 car, and was converted to a V8. My theory then, was that the electric fan and shroud had never fit properly against the rad because when they swapped to a V8, and they didn't change to the V8 core support. And that i would be better off buying aftermarket electric fans, rather than try to work with the stock electric fan and shroud to make it work or changing out the whole core support.

Does this sound right? I don't want to buy aftermarket fans if there are different brackets i can purchase from gm to make this fan fit properly. I just had a look and the fan mounts up okay, but its on a bit of an angle, and is 1n inch or so away from the radiator, not tight against it.

Thanks in advance.

The chassis between the v6 and v8 were the same. The radiator and plastics retaining (radiator and mounting of the fan) were different between the two, though. iirc

Are the parts breakdowns of the radiator assembly available online? Id like to have a look at both versions. Thanks

Re: 87 V6 Core Support vs V8 Core Support

Notice the 1" gap between the rad and fan.
The top of the electric fan mounts properly to the plastic piece. The bottom doesn't currently bolt to anything, and rests against a steel cross piece. I think im missing a lower plastic piece that the fan bolts to.
The top radiator mount looks to be for a thicker radiator. You can see how thick the opening looks compared to the thickness of the rad. The rad i have is a brand new replacement for a 87 Z28.

yep, looks like you are missing the lower fan support and
have the narrower upper radiator support-get the fan
bracket and a wider upper radiator support panel from a
single electric fan v8 car or possibly a later v6 as i think
the later v6s have the wider upper radiator mount panel
too.The fan itself is the same between the v6 and v8.
