A/C Cooling System Help.

I have an 86 Iroc, I am trying to convert the system from 12 to 134.

The problem I have is that the fan that blows air into the cab works only when it feels like it. I have checked the voltage at the switch on the dryer, and the relay coil. It will blow air but if I turn the fan off then turn it back on it wont come on. I want to go ahead and fix the fan before I install the new components or buy another fan motor. Sometimes it wont even come on.

I do not know much about A/C Systems, Ive been searching through threads and all I could find is how the A/C system affects the temp. of the engine while idling.

Thanks in advance for any useful info.

Re: A/C Cooling System Help.

Test the motor by giving it full 12V battery power at the purple terminal.

I think your problem is more likely either a poor connection, a bad blower motor resitor, or a lazy relay.

yea, switching from r12 to r134a isnt going to make the blower work any better. and r134a doesnt work as well in an r12 system as r12 does. so it will actually cool worse than it does now

The A/C doesnt work at all, Im trying to switch the whole system over. Im about to order the new compressor, dryer, o tube, and maybe hoses. Im just trying to see if the blower works to see if I need to order it.

I think I figured it out, it was the relay. I couldnt get continuity across the coil. So I used a jumper to complete the contacts part of the circuit and the blower fired right up.

It appears to have the R-134 retrofit connectors, but im not sure.
