1992 Camaro Heater Core Removal
305 TBI, A/C
I've read the majority of all the posts here and elsewhere concerning the PROPER removal of the heater core. I've removed the dash pad, passenger side hush panel and ECM and am able to access all but the one elusive heater box screw on top. I can feel it but short of removing the entire dash assembly, I can't get a 1/4 drive ratchet and socket with extension onto it. The Chilton's manual covers the steps I've just mentioned but I'm still at a standstill.
I pride myself on my automotive prowess and attention to detail but this job has me stumped. Since this Camaro IS my show car I can't afford to break parts in the interests of ease of access.
Am I missing something in the translation here that would make this job easier?
Thanks Third Gen brothers and sisters!

I remember getting one bolt through the top after removing the dashpad. But I removed it without getting every bolt. I just pried and held the box split open and carefully squeezed the core out and new one in. It is possible but it sucks, and getting the new one through the firewall is rough too. Just keep at it, nothing broke when I changed mine without getting every bolt for the box.

OK, I've got the heater core cover removed, the lines disconnected under the hood but the baffle in front of the heater core won't pop out. I removed three screws but it's stuck in the upper left corner. I don't see/feel a screw in that area. Any suggestions?

Be sure to get new hoses. Autozone has the good year high miler (blue) hoses that high silicone and will last a lot longer than regular hoses. Also a good time to buy the new factory little S hose that is back there. I cant remember if that is included in the good year set. Some people like to re-route them and the heater control valve when doing the heater core project. They re-route them over to the inner fender to get them out of the way.
