temp gauge, overheating?

just got an 85 Berlinetta in beautiful shape. the temp gauge shows nothing and i feel like the car might be running hot. whwt feeds the guage, and does the fan run off that same info?

and i have not had a chance to go through many of the normal tests yet. just wondered if one problem was a result of the other

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: temp gauge, overheating?

whwt feeds the guage
Temp gauge sending unit: driver's side head, between #1 & #3 spark plugs.

does the fan run off that same info?
No.

Come to think of it, that TGSU location is for a V8... if it's a 6-cyl I haven't the vaguest clue, as, although I've heard they exist, I've never even seen one up close.

Re: temp gauge, overheating?

i have since (sheepishly) realized that it is a belt driven fan (confused it with my '92)

can i remove the belts on my smog and ac pumps without removing the hoses? (temporarily) they are making a lot of undue noise and i was going to pull them anyway

and thanks for the location

Yes. You can remove the belts without removing the hoses.

Check your temp gage sending wire at the sensor. Make sure it's connected. Test the gage by grounding the wire with the engine in 'run'. The gage should max out.
