Warped Cooling Fan?
After (finally) getting my transmission cooler installed, I took the car for a ride & then parked it in my driveway to check the trans fluid. I walked into the garage, when I turned to come back out I thought the car was on fire - there was a ton of white smoke bellowing out from the engine compartment. It turns out, it was coming from the stock electric cooling fan.
I tried to spin the fan by hand, no luck. When I did, though, it appeared that the plastic fan was hitting on the plastic shroud. The fan has bene working fine since installation a year ago, it certainly didn't hit before.
I waited for everything to cool down, the removed the fan from the car. without it bolted in, it was very hard to tell if the blade would still hit the shroud or not. My thought is that the motor went bad and got so hot that it warped the bracket just enough to make the blade hit. I plan on purchasing a new fan motor today & installing it to see how it is, just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this with the stock fan. Thanks.
