Need advice
Hey guys I bought a 1985 trans am it has had a engine swap to a 1976 corvette motor. I am trying to hook up a air conditioner all I have is the line going in the fire wall. Does anyone know what kind of bracket I need and compressor? My local mechanics are saying different things and I don't know what to do. TIA

Re: Need advice
you will need to round up brackets and pulleys for 1976-early 85 SBC with R4 compressor-sources for these include ~82-85 caprice /impala,82-85 thirdgen,78-85 SBC G-body ETC. mid-85 through 87 with the flat, grooved alt/water pump belt could also be used.Crank and water pump pulleys used with the A6 compressor are different from those used with the R4.
Re: Need advice
Thanks for the help I was hoping not to have to change the pulleys, I was hoping to get a bracket and compressor to match my pulleys I already have. Is this possible? Thanks again for your help

Re: Need advice
if the pulleys are original '85 TA you will only need to get the R4 compressor brackets. For an earlier build '85,crank pulley should have 3 v-belt grooves of the same diameter and the water pump pulley will have two grooves o same diameter + a smaller front groove for the smog pump belt.Later build '85 came with a crank pulley with two v-belt rearmost grooves and a forward flat poly-v section for a "serpentine style"belt.Originally ,the H.O. and TPI engines came with a deep groove A/C pulley to reduce tendency of "throwing"the A/C belt at high RPM.

Re: Need advice
Put all your 85 stuff back on it. It all bolts up to that smogger turd because all the bolt holes on it are exactly the same as your 85. (assuming of course, that the "Vette" lie has the slightest grain of truth anywhere in it, which since the car seller said "Vette", is as close to 100% ironclad take it to the bank GUARANTEED to be a total baldfaced LIE as you can possibly get, so that ultimately means that there's ACTUALLY no telling what that motor is, or more accurately, what collection of parts was scraped together to "build" it)
Isn't it amazing how many "Vette" motors there are in the world these days? Seems like EVERY rebuilt motor there is, in EVERY used car sold to someone who isn't very experienced with that sort of thing, is "out of a Vette". Kinda makes you wonder sometimes where all the Vettes themselves went, or if they're all just sitting around without motors, or what. Or, maybe it's all those body rust problems those old Vettes are known for?
Anyway, ignore a bunch of "mechanics". All you need to do is put back onto the car what came off of it. Doesn't necessarily have to come from a F body except maybe the lines (to be the right length) which you don't want to buy used anyway since you'll spend more in lost Freon from the inevitable leaks at the fittings than it'll cost to buy it new. All the rest of it is the same as for a truck, Caprice, etc. with a small block V8.
