ok ,I got a new condenser.filter screen(?) and a re-man compressor.used all new "green" o rings thru out. my system was designed for R-12 and I want no part of R-134-a. and the question is.... are there any other refrigerants that I can use? obviously It has to be very nearly like R-12 so as to not cause problems.all the shops around here all sing 134!!!!! NO NO NO I SAY so short of doing without AC (it got to 108F here last year!!!) what can I do? anyone with any SANE ideas I would love to hear them about now. and ,no freeze 12 is not a sane idea

The last time I had an R12 car, I used this...

http://bennettsupply.net/HC-12a.htm

...and was very happy with the results.

When the a/c on my "new" T/A starts leaking, I'll probably order some more of it and use it again.

They are even right there in your home state Rusty!

Just be aware....once you cross into the world of using non-R12 or non-R134A refrigerants, you're most likely committing to doing your own work on the a/c system from now on.

Repair shops will always sample what's in the system of a car they are starting to work on (or should), to assure that they are not going to contaminate their equipment with a "foreign" material.

Re: what else besides R-134-a can i use?

I have nothing but good things to say about envirosafe refrigerants.

http://www.es-refrigerants.com/

I used it in my blazer, and my girlfriends vue. It blows cold and very little goes a long way. Granted I replaced R-134a but envirosafe can replace r-12 and is compatible with any oil. I plan on using it in my 85 TA when I get to installing the missing A/C equipment.

Re: what else besides R-134-a can i use?

414B (hotshot) is a good refrigerant and I use to use it in the 90s in my iroc and my 89 Z71 4x4. I havent bought any since the late 90s but it worked great for me but so does freeze 12 which is the last refrigerant I bought a few years ago. R12 is still the best since that is what the system was designed for back then.
