Radiator fan motor
Radiator fan motor
Does anyone else have problems with their radiator fan motor burning out too often?
i have a 91 rs 305 tbi and i feel like i'm replacing the fan motor once a year because it keeps burning out. It seems like it's coming on and turning off to frequently but I don't know for sure every other vehicle I've had has been a clutch fan. I know it's supposed to come on somewhere around 217 to 220 but it only stays on till it gets back down to 210 and then turns off. for highway driving that's not an issue it never goes over 200 but in the city or stop and go it's constant.
before I replace it this time I want to find out if this is normal or if there's something I should be taking a look at. Obviously I shouldn't have to be replacing it every year but maybe I'm just getting junk motors, in which case what are your suggestions for brands?

Re: Radiator fan motor
I haven't had problems with GM fan motors failing early-the fan motors should last for years, even if hooked up to come on with the ignition and run constant.
Any idea what is going wrong with the motors?-usually when i find a bad one,it is burnt out from the fan being jammed with ice or snow in the winter. If the ones failing are asian aftermarket ones, just get a good used original GM one at A junkyard-lots of ~1985-2000 GM models use the same fan motors as thirdgens.
