A/C high pressure cutoff switch replacement

Is it necessary to discharge the gas in order to replace the high pressure cutoff switch?
Or are there any ways to replace it without discharging the gas?

Re: A/C high pressure cutoff switch replacement

It exposes a hole in the compressor, looking right directly into the high-pressure (output) chamber where the line hooks up.

So, no unfortunately, removing it lets out the refrigerant.

Thanks for the reply.
I thought I might be able to replace the switch even while the gas was coming out, but probably I was wrong.

Think... it has to be exposed to the pressure, in order to respond to it.

When you put it back in, be careful to clean up the bore of the hole, to get a good seal on its O-ring.
