Choice Water Pump GTA 1987

Hello,

Can you help me to choose a good water pump because I don't know the historic on the old .... My car do overheating 230/240 just at the iddle, thermostat is ok, flush of coolant done, radiator is average, I suspect the water pump

I would like to choose a performance water pump for add a maximum of efficacity of cooling

https://www.rockauto.com/fr/catalog/...ater+pump,2208

The GMB1301250P means a good choice ?

I do not recommend using a performance pump on a stock cooling system. It could actually cause overheating as it could pump the water through the radiator too fast and not allow the radiator to cool the fluid. Performance water pumps should only be used with a larger aftermarket radiator. If you like the GMB then use the "D" not the "P", GMB1301250HDHeavy Duty Cast Iron Body

If your radiator is questionable I would replace that also. If the radiator is restricting flow that would cause the engine to run hot. Make sure your cooling fans are turning on. Not sure if you have a 2 fan or single fan system but they don't turn on until like 225 or something. If they don't kick on you will run hot at idle as no air is moving across the radiator.

OK, thanks for this feedback, my radiator is not fresh but is the same and I dont' know his historic ...... I project a new (champion radiator EC951 classic 2 row), perhaps it is more easy to change the radiator in first ?

if no my primary fan works good but a little too late approx 235 F.... the second....not tested for the moment, but when it works it is not good because very hot.

I think I would do the radiator 1st also. The only way for the pump to not push water is if it sat in rusty water for a while. The internal fan blades rust and deteriorate over time. The cooling fan that turns on @ 235 sounds normal. It is a dumb design but that is how they are done. My buddy has a 92 and his 2 fan system works the same and he is on factory settings. You can hit up a tuner here, Tuned Performance, and he can burn a chip so the fans come on @ a cooler temp, like 180. You can also wire one or both to a new temp switch or a switch inside the car.

Have you checked the radiator cap? Make sure it is not opening too early, otherwise you can overheat just at idle.

Possible, internal blades rusty, because this car has not been driven for a long time, 10 years perhaps, one use by month, told me the former owner
