Temp gauge sweeps to 260 and back

Hi all

My gauge usually sits just under 220. Lately, I'll notice it slowly sweep to the right - it'll take about 20,30 seconds to make it there.
Once it's there, it'll stay there around the same length of time, maybe 45 seconds or so and it'll move back to just over 220.

Nothing blocking the rad and my fans seem to be working. Anyone else ever have this issue? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

*sorry if this has been discussed a lot, I searched but didn't run across a thread with this specific issue

I haven't - for some reason, I'm under the (wrong?) impression that if the sender fails, it usually just quits.
