Help with my cooling system.
So recently I've been having problems with my cooling system and i'm really stumped as to what is wrong. Before i take her to my mechanic i want to see if there is anyone who knows what this is. I bought this car knowing that the radiator was drained and that there was some problem with it. Later i figured out that there was a leak in the radiator that sprung open one day and removed almost all of the cooling components. I replaced the radiator, water pump, and a few censors. The fans were in good working condition and didn't need to be replaced. I replaced the censor to the temp gauge and the censor to the fans. (And yes i replaced all of the hoses) My problem is that the fans will not turn on by themselves, and the temp gauge shows that the engine is running at 260 degrees, while a temp gun pointed at the hoses and the thermostat housing says it is merely 200. I don't know how to get the fans to turn on nor how to get the gauge to be accurate. If anyone is wondering it's a 1992 camaro rs 305 tbi. When the car reaches about 230 (read from the temp gun outside of the car) the antifreeze will start to bubble... which is a sign of overheating. 230 shouldn't be overheating so this raises the question of a blown head gasket. When i checked the oil for signs of a blown head gasket i was shocked to see nothing. (no milky oil, smells and looks like oil at the dipstick and no discolored residue at the oil cap) If anyone has any ideas that might help please share! I will most likely stop by to a mechanic sometime this week...

The factory temp gauge is notoriously inaccurate. When I had the factory fan switch ~235F on temp the factory gauge would be near the red when it turned on. You could wait longer using the IR gun for reference or try a cooler temp fan switch. I like the 1989 turbo trans am switch 212F on 195 off PN(SW555, 1S4394, 35946, 3053190)

You can also ground the fan switch wire and make sure the fans turn on
