does the snap on reader give real time diagnostics? a buddy of mine has one, and i would like to check the vitals of my engine since it was recently swapped from a lb9 to an l98. also, if my fuel pump is dying on me, does it test the voltage or anything that would give me a sure sign that my fuel pump is the cause of hard starts. tia

It should work just fine, although not real time. It may be a second slow with 8192 baud and only gives about a frame per second, but that's pretty damn good. Whatever is in the data stream will show up on the scanner. I am referring to a MT2500 as that's what most folks use. If the fuel pump is bad you may see that the O2 sensor voltage may not like to cross over. You may also see things like real high BLM readings. These aren't set in stone means of diagnosing a bad fuel pump but they do tend to happen at the time of bad fuel pumps. Fuel pressure test in conjunction with these other things would really be ideal.
