P/N Switch standard to automatic

I thought I remembered reading a post that said the ECM needs to know if the vehicle is in gear or in P/N. I have just swapped out my manual transmission in my 88 vette for an auto and switched to 7730 ECM. Do I need to wire up the P/N safety switch in my shifter to the ECM or not. If so, does the P/N safety switch from the ECM go to ground when in Park or Neutral or ground when in gear or neither?

The park/neutral switch wire, (orange and black I think, goes to BD16) should be grounded when in park or neutral. In the manual transmission PROM the setting for park/neutral idle adders is set to zero. I've ran a TPI retro-fit w/700r4 since '94 and it's never been hooked up to my switch. Never made any difference.

The only thing is, (on a 730 ECM at least) without this wire hooked up you will never get over 800 RPM idle request from the ECM when the engines cold.
