Bad ECM?

To start this is a 1984 Carb'd 2.8L V6 Firebird.

The original computer I have NOT been able to get to show any codes at all and the car has been running quite rough even after a full tune up. On a whim I pulled another ECM from a 84 carb'd bird at a local junkyard, That one showed code 54, bad mixture control solenoid...and indeed it was bad. However after replacing the Solenoid, the computer is still showing error 54, even after pulling the ECM fuse for the night.

Is there any way to test the ECM's and verify if either of them is working???
Or should I try for a 3rd ECM and hope for the best?

Ayep of course I did.
Reset by removing the ECM fuse for approx one minute each time.

Well I have Also had the ECM completly disconnected from the car, swapping them back and forth as I have two. That would be the same as disconnecting the battery, correct?
